March 26th 2010: Day 128

Temperature (F degrees): 48.2
Stress Zyme:
10ml
Water Change:
4 gallon - 5 gallon
Number of Fish Removed: 0
Everyone is looking better today, there are still a couple who are sticking fairly close to the bottom. They are less energetic than they normally would be, but they seem to be improving. A few darkly colored fish now due to stress. The stress caused a kind of pixilation of black dots on some of the fishes bodies. The majority of the fish have a little bit of pixilation like this on their scales, but the three or four darker ones have more concentrated pixilation than the others, causing them to be darker. 80-90% of the fish ate today when I fed them, for now we are feeding the #2 and 1.2mm foods in order to allow the fish to use less energy for eating. This will help them recover a little faster, or at least we hope so. Yesterday and also today, I noticed that as a stress response, the fish went to the bathroom a lot, producing huge stings of fecal matter which is very different from the fecal waste they would normally produce which is small and grainy, and fairly similar to the food that they eat. The water still looks yellow in comparison to it's usual color. Did a 4 gallon- 5 gallon water change today and added 10ml of stress zyme. Even though everything is going back to normal, there is still a chance that some of the fish won't make it. The stressful situation yesterday would have lowered their immune response which would make them more susceptible to diseases that they wouldn't normally contract. The increased temperature yesterday could have also caused an increase in bacteria in the water, considering that most bacteria thrive in warmer conditions. An increase in bacteria could increase the chances of the fish contracting some sort of bacterial infection. Hopefully this won't happen. Today I cleaned the bottom of the aquarium and filters along with the water change (which was spread out over a few hours time to reduce the risk of shocking the fish yet again with the room temperature, distilled water) The fish were fed at 9:00am, 11:00am, 2:00pm, and 3:30pm. Took some pictures today.
