January 4th 2010: Day 47

Temperature (F degrees): 48.6
Stress Zyme: 10 ml
Water Change: 3 gallon-4 gallon
Number of Fish Removed: 0
About 9 or 10 fries started surfacing today, they've been acting very interested in the food. I fed them today and the librarian volunteered to feed them later on tonight. Over break she came in and gave them feedings every other day since she was going to be at the school anyways. Approximately half of the fish are now up and swimming off the bottom of the tank. They typically will lie on the aquarium surface for a while to rest, then swim periodically then return to the bottom to rest some more. The other fish are still lying around under the the rock ledge trying to hide their heads. Tomorrow I might move the rock and see if it gets the other fish moving around some more. The ten that are really active swim almost all of the time. They typically move in a wavy pattern, swimming straight up toward the surface at an angle, then they lose energy and sink about 4 inches, only to swim upward again and get tired, it is sort of comical to watch. Then they will come right up close to each other and swim away really fast as if they were playing a game of tag. Today I cut the end of the bubbler tube and refastened it to the bubble disperser, hopefully it will stay better now. No signs of the weak fish today, maybe he's hiding among everyone else under the rock. It's hard to say what happened to him, but there does not seem to be much hope for him. Egg sacs are still visible, but hardly even noticeable anymore, they should all start making an honest transition to eating solid food now in the next couple of days. I took a couple of pictures today so you can see how much they have grown.
